An application for a NIE number (Asignación de NIE) can be submitted to carry out certain administrative procedures, such as purchasing real estate, starting a company, investing or receiving an inheritance. The reason for submitting the application must be supported by supporting documents (e.g. contrato de arras, notary letter, etc.). A NIE number is not a residence permit!
